Scheherezade

The mouthpiece of the tales related in the Arabian Nights. She was the daughter of the grand Vizier of the Indies. The sultan Schahriah, having the discovered the infidelity of his sultana, resolved to have a fresh wife every night and have her strangled at daybreak. Scheherezade entreated to become his next wife, and so amused him with tales for a thousand and one nights that he revoked his decree, and bestowed his affection on her, and called her 'the liberator of the sex'.
