On Tahiti, Ro'o is the great healer-god. He was invoked by sick people whom he cured by driving out the spell of illness, and was called Ro'o-i-Te-Hiripoi ("Ro'o in distress"). Ro'o taught curative chants to the healers on earth. He is the son of Atea the sky-god.
