by Micha F. Lindemans
The Italian form of Roland, one of the greatest heroes of medieval romance and the most celebrated of Charlemagne's paladins.

Orlando is also the main character of Ludovico Ariosto's epic Renaissance poem Orlando furioso (the fury of Orlando). As such he is also the central figure of the very popular traditional Sicilian puppet shows (pupi) that deal with Charlemagne and his paladins.
