The father of Creon and Jocasta and a descendant of the Spartes. When the Seven Against Thebes laid siege to that city, Tiresias foretold that if anyone of the Sparti should parish, Thebes would be freed from that disaster. Menoeceus realized that only he could bring safety and threw himself from the walls. The Thebans were indeed victorious.
