Jizo is the Japanese Buddha of great compassion. He is the protector of children, pregnant women and travelers. He is also the consoler of troubled parents as well as a healer. Jizo is usually portrayed as a bald man carrying a pilgrim staff. He is identical to the Indian Kshitigarbha.
