The supreme god of the Maori and other Polynesian peoples. Io ("core") is considered to be 'all-knowing' and 'eternal' and his name may only be whispered. Io consists of both a male (Te Io Ora) and female (Io Wahine) substance. He dwells above the sky in Te Toi-o-nga-Rango, the highest heaven of the twelve upper worlds.
