A Chinese earth god, a grandson of the Yellow Emperor Huang-di, and father of Da-yu. Because of his failure to control the great deluge --already reaching the heavens-- by building dams, he is degraded to an associate of the demon Gong Gong. According to another myth he was executed by the god of fire for this failure.
