The fruit most widely regarded by the Sages to have been the forbidden fruit eaten by Adam and Eve. This is because only a few verses later it is described how God made garments of fig leaves (Gen. 3:7). One Hechalot text includes a ritual for summoning the Sar ha-Torah that involves writing an incantation on a fig leaf and then eating it.
