Engkanto
A creature from Philippine belief. It resides in a balete (lunok) tree and is harmless unless its abode is threatened. Someone who cuts down its tree will punished by the engkanto and this person will develop a bloated stomach or a high fever. Children are warned not to come too close to the balate trees or play in their vicinity.
