In ancient Armenian mythology, they are a group of immortal spirits who inhabit old ruins. They mingle with the living. Some of them are beneficent, such as the dog-shaped Aralez who restores those fallen in battle to life by licking their wounds. Others, such as Ays, Vishap and the torturer Chival, are truly evil.
