Cosmogenic myths explain how heaven and earth came into being. They are often the most important myths of a culture. The beings revealed in the myth, as well as the qualitative mode of creation, becomes a model for all other forms of creation in the culture. Sometimes a being will create ex nihilo, from out of nothing. In other cases, from a primordial chaos.
