Charred Body

by Ryan Tuccinardi
Among the Awatixa, of the Hidatsa Confederation of North Dakota, Charred Body took the form of an arrow and came down from the sky near the Missouri River. He made a village and populated it with 13 couples, who became the first Awatixa. He was also a culture hero, teaching the Awatixa the Naxpike, or HideBeating Ceremony and the Buffalo Calling Ceremony.
