In Russian folklore Booyan is a magic island, mentioned in incantations and spells, the otherworld. This island is situated in the middle of the ocean, and holy men possessing healing powers live there; on this island stands a magic stone Alatyr. In spells and incantations Booyan is mentioned along with this stone. People believed that otherwise no spell or charm could be effective.
