The son of Abu Bakr, who fell in love with the daughter of Abu Sufyan, archenemy of the Prophet Muhammad, and married her. He joined his father-in-law in raiding Muslim caravans until his own father converted him and his wife to Islam. After their conversion they became staunch defenders of Islam against Abu Sufyan who was finally defeated by Ali (the first imam).
